SHC CJ takes notice of Kandiaro gang rape case
The chief justice of the Sindh High Court, Justice Ahmed Ali M Sheikh, on Monday took notice of media reports pertaining to a gang rape incident involving a 13-year-old girl in Kandiaro.
According to reports in the electronic and print media, the teenage girl was raped by three people and abandoned in an unconscious condition. She was taken to local hospital where her condition was said to be critical.
Taking notice of the incident, the SHC CJ directed district and sessions judge Khairpur, DIG and concerned commissioner to submit a report about the incident and take action against criminals involved in the incident.
The CJ also took notice of the outbreak of Chikungunya in Thar after recent rains. Justice Sheikh directed district and sessions judge Tharparkar, district health officer and superintendent Civil Hospital Mithi to submit reports over prevention and treatment measures taken by health authorities.
Law minister NAB case
The SHC directed Sindh Minister for Law Ziaul Hasan Lanjar to record his statement with the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in a corruption reference initiated by the anti-graft agency against him.
During the hearing of the minister’s interim pre-arrest bail plea, NAB’s counsel submitted that the petitioner was not cooperating with the bureau in investigations. He submitted that Lanjar was facing serious allegations of corruption but he did not appear before the bureau when summoned. While asking the law minister to have his statement recorded, the court sought a progress report from NAB within three weeks.
