The new underpass

The Sindh government and the concerned authorities must be lauded for planning and constructing the newly-opened underpass at Drigh Road, Karachi. According to some media reports, the Shaheed Munawwar Soharwardi underpass was constructed at the cost of around Rs663 million in a period of nearly four months. An underpass at this location was the need of the hour as traffic on Shahrah-e-Faisal that moves towards the airport did face serious congestion when traffic from Rashid Minhas Road would merge into it. This underpass, however, has reduced nearly 10 to 15 minutes of the time that commuters would spend every day at the Drigh Road signal.

Also, recently, the Baloch Colony flyover in Karachi was remodelled and Shahrah-e-Faisal was widened at both ends to facilitate more traffic and to reduce congestion. Such construction projects must be appreciated since they provide ease to commuters. It is hoped that with the same dedication and hard work, the Sindh government along with the concerned departments will clean Karachi from the heaps of rubbish and garbage plaguing its many areas. It will also take concrete measures to fix sewerage problems, repair broken roads and renovate infrastructure to make Karachi more beautiful. With collective effort, perseverance, loyalty and faith in our abilities, we can make Karachi and the entire Pakistan a model of fineness.
