KARACHI: Chief collector Pakistan customs Tariq Huda has announced that a total of 10 domestic teams, including the national champions, would participate in the Quaid-e-Azam Gold Cup hockey tournament, to be organised by Pakistan Customs at its sports complex from February 7-15.
Addressing a press conference, Huda said that 23 matches would be played in the tournament. The semi-finals and the final would be played on Feb 13 and 15, respectively.
He said that Quaid-e-Azam Gold Cup was first organised in 1955 and since then had been organised only four times. The tournament was last organised in 2010. He vowed that now Pakistan customs would organise the tournament on regular basis. Huda said that the teams participating in the tournament were Pak Customs, PIA, NBP, SSGC, Railways, Police, Army, Pakistan Steel Mills, Sindh and Punjab.
He said that Pakistan Customs Sports Complex had got a new turf.
He further said that Pakistan Customs would lift the ban on the employment of sportspersons.
Customs gave jobs to players for the last time in 1994. He said Customs had a comprehensive plan for the promotion of sports and rehabilitation of the hockey team was its first step. He announced the restoration of Pakistan Customs hockey team and said other sports teams would also be established.
PHF secretary Rana Mujahid, tournament director Hanif Khan, and organising secretary Islahuddin were also present on the occasion.
