PESHAWAR: The patients are facing hardships at the Mardan Medical Complex as two important diagnostic machines MRI and CT scan have been out of order for three weeks.
Sources at the MMC told The News that the two machines developed some technical faults three weeks ago and these were yet to be repaired.
“The MMC is a tertiary care hospital where hundreds of patients are brought every day from different areas and some of them needed diagnostic services such as MRI and CT scan. But since the two machines are not functioning, the patients are referred to private MRI and CT scan,” said an official of the hospital on condition of anonymity
He said it was difficult for the patients and their attendants to cross the busy Mardan-Nowshera Road and take the patients to private clinics.
Razaullah Khan, an attendant of a patient admitted at the hospital, said they had to take the patient to a private centre for MRI as the machine at hospital has been dysfunctional.
“It was difficult for us to take the patient across the busy road and the charges of the private machine are also very high,” he complained.
Sources at the Dental College said their electricity meter had been out of order for the past several weeks and they had to operate some machines through power generator.
According to officials, the officials of the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) removed the electric meter after it developed some fault.
“Now the dental college has been without electricity for many weeks. We are using generator to run the machines but when the staff switch on air-conditioners, it overloads the generator and machines stop functioning,” the official said.
Chairman Board of Governors (BoG) of Bacha Khan Medical College (BKMC) and MMC Prof Fazle Hadi said they were trying to get repaired MRI and CT scan.
He said parts for MRI were being brought from Japan and the CT scan would soon be made functional.
