Siraj wants accountability of all named in Panama Leaks, Zardari, Musharraf
LAHORE: JI ameer Senator Sirajul Haq has said after the prime minister, around 450 people named in Panama Leaks and those who had devoured billions of public money should also be brought to accountability and every penny of the public be recovered from them.
JI also wanted accountability of Asif Ali Zardari and Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf for making huge assets in the country and abroad besides political turncoats seeking refuge through party change, he said while addressing the participants of JI central workshop at Mansoora through a video-link on Wednesday. He again appealed to the Supreme Court to announce its decision of Panama Leaks case at the earliest and also to lay down a system for eradication of corruption from the country.
Sirajul Haq alleged that the rulers had tried their best to escape accountability and to mislead the masses by levelling false allegations against the state institutions but had failed. The Supreme Court, he said, had admitted that the prime minister and his family had failed to give their money trail. He alleged that sufficient material had come to surface against Finance Minister and Defence Minister.
He said JI wanted to bring about a change through democratic means. He said corruption and democracy could not go together and it was essential to weed out the corrupt people from politics through vote in the next elections. He urged the Election Commission to ensure electoral reforms before the next elections. He said the present system served the interest of the wealthy and feudal lords and capitalists against honest and patriotic people with limited means.
Meanwhile, JI secretary general Liaqat Baloch addressing the JI members said his party has reservations on the final report of the Parliamentary Committee regarding Electoral Reforms and it was convening a round table conference of the national leaders for a review to reach national consensus and ensure transparent and impartial elections.
He said the threats to national security and the country’s ideology were increasing because of the conspiracies of the US-India-Israel trio. He said political crisis in the country and Panama Leaks case had jolted the country badly.
He urged the Supreme Court to announce the decision of the Panama Leaks and the Bani Gala cases without further delay. Liaqat Baloch said political wisdom and moral ethic had required Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to step down from his office.
