LAHORE
Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) has demanded the government announce wheat purchase policy within 48 hours.
PAT president Dr Raheeq Abbasi while talking to a delegation of farmers on Monday, said if the wheat price policy was not announced immediately, it would harm the Punjab government and the people.
He said after suffering massive losses on cotton and rice crops, the farmers are finding it difficult to plough their fields for the next harvest.
He said due to delay in wheat procurement policy, 98 per cent of small farmers sold over 80 per cent of their yield in open market much below the official rate.
He said the government should purchase the wheat directly from the farmers.
