Charsadda Police arrest 29 militants, bust major groups in six months
PESHAWAR: The Charsadda Police have arrested more terrorists and recovered explosives than any other district in the province during the current year, revealed statistics of the district police.
According to the data of the force, 29 hardcore militants were arrested by the Charsadda Police in seven actions during the current year. They were responsible for over 100 incidents of terrorism all over Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Some major terror networks of the outlawed Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Sheikh Khalid Group and Jamaatul Ahrar were shattered by the force and many of its members were rounded up.
“Out of the eight suicide jackets recovered in the province, seven were recovered by the Charsadda Police. The recovery included 36 mortar shells, 25 rocket shells, 29 grenade-gun shells, 211 detonators, 190 hand-grenades, 107 kilograms of explosives, 92 yard prima cord and a number of other ammunition during the current year,” an official told.
Two incidents of terrorism took place in the district in which three suicide bombers attacked the Tangi Courts and another two suicide bombers attacked the FC training school in Michini. “Both the attacks were successfully repulsed and the attackers were killed. Besides, no kidnapping for ransom has been reported while the incidents of extortion have dropped to three,” District Police Officer Charsadda Suhail Khalid said.
The recoveries made from these groups are recorded highest in province. He added that police conducted several operations in the district against the militants that played important role in restoring peace. Charsadda has been under attack for the last many years since it shares a long boundary with the troubled Mohmand Agency.
