An international survey has shown that Pakistan has reduced the number TB patients.
Dr Asmat Ara, the in-charge of the TB Control Programme said this on Saturday, adding that the survey revealed that prevalence of TB disease in 1990 was 566 per 100,000 which had been cut down to 348 in 2014. “As many as 59,520 tuberculosis cases were registered throughout the Sindh in 2014 out of which 29,850 were found positive,” Dr Ara said.
The TB control programme in-charge said these cases were reported in 266 diagnostic and treatment centers providing free of charge treatment facilities to patients. “TB is an infectious disease and usually affects adults. Establishment of latest diagnostic centers at local level had provided easy access to people to required treatment.”
She explained data collected by diagnostic centres was shared at district levels and then provided to the Sindh TB Programme.
