Plan to facilitate flow of traffic in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: A comprehensive plan has been chalked out to ensure a smooth flow of traffic after the launch of the construction work on Bus Rapid Transit Project.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Traffic Peshawar, Yasir Afridi, on Wednesday told reporters that work on Bus Rapid Transit Project was likely to start from August 1. He said the traffic police had finalised arrangements to facilitate the commuters.

The official added the project would bring an end to the traffic problems in the provincial capital. "The smooth flow of traffic from Chamkani to Hayatabad will be ensured through alternative routes and more traffic wardens would be deployed to serve the commuters," Yasir Afridi.

He was flanked by SP Traffic Headquarters Riaz Ahmad and DSP Rozia Altaf. The SSP Traffic said an awareness campaign would be launched to educate people about diversions, alternative routes and other measures.

He added that cooperation of the general public would be very important for the coming over six months during which the Bus Rapid Transit project is likely to be completed. "More traffic wardens will be deployed at the points where there would be more chances of traffic jams. The wardens will take adequate measures to avoid traffic jams particularly during peak hours," said Yasir Afridi. The official said the awareness campaign would play a key role as people needed to be educated about the alternative routes and other measures to be taken for the general public.
