No consensus as tribal chiefs demand quota

DERA GHAZI KHAN: The consensus on the recruitment policy to the Border Military Police and Baloch Levy for Dera Ghazi Khan as well as Rajanpur could not be reached after tribal chiefs demanded quota as per the sanctioned posts and the population.
Sources revealed that the third joint session of the administration, tribal chiefs and the elected MPs would be held soon to decide the matter as 500 posts were lying vacant for the last 15 years. They said that the session was chaired by Commissioner Dr Saqib Aziz at his office on Saturday to finalise the recommendations and the suggestions for the recruitment to the Border Military Police and Baloch Levy responsible for law and order in the tribal and semi-tribal areas. They said that a majority of tribal chiefs had demanded quota under which they would recommend suitable candidates for selection in both forces. They said that some elected MNA and MPAs had opposed the demand and suggested that the recruitment should be made purely on merit so that deserving as well as competent staff could be inducted for better performance in the traditional force.
They revealed that it was decided to hold another session to finalise recommendations that would be later submitted to the Punjab government. They said that some MPs had also demanded that they should also be provided quota if tribal chiefs were accommodated for their respective tribes. They demanded that there should be a ban on the intra-tribe transfer of the staff in the Border Military Police as well as Baloch Levy. They also disclosed that the session was informed that there was no provision of the quota system for the tribal chiefs as well as elected representatives under the law, while the selection on merit would improve the performance. “The next session is expected in a couple of days,” the sources added.
