Talib keen to prepare trainers
KARACHI: Because of lack of qualified trainers Pakistan has not been able to pull off inspiring results in most sports disciplines in international circuit.
Fitness is considered a cardinal part in the overall development of athletes. Keeping in view this issue, Mohammad Talib, a former international athlete and qualified trainer, has offered his services to Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) for producing a healthy pool of trainers.
“I can work for the PSB as you know fitness is an important component in the athletes’ overall development Talib told ‘The News’ here in an interview. “If I am given a chance I will prepare trainers who will then work with different federations and prepare players for international assignments,” he added.
Talib is the most popular person in Pakistan’s sports but he has been credited neither by Pakistan’s government nor by any federation for his meritorious services for the country’s sports.
It was because of his training that Pakistan hockey team won the World Cup, Olympics and Asian Games in the 1980s. He served for ten years with Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) as a trainer.
Talib also served Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF) for almost a decade under former AIBA and PBF chief Professor Anwar Chowdhry.Athletics is his special field and he has been running a fitness centre for many decades.
He has also worked with the KPT football team. Talib said that it was very important to have a trainer with a team. He said that he was also ready to work with the PBF as the standard of boxing has gone down in the country. “I am ready to work with the PBF provided it has sincere people who want to develop the game in the real sense,” the 81-year-old Talib said. Talib got his diploma in training in 1979-80 from Germany.
