Karachi: The Sindh government curtailed more powers of Sindh IG Police A D Khowaja regarding transfer and posting of Superintendents of Police (SPs) and Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs).

These powers were handed over to Sindh Services, General Administration and Coordination Department with the approval of the Sindh chief minister.

According to a letter issued by Chief Secretary Sindh Muhammad Rizwan Memon, copy available with The News, quoting the rule 9(c) of Sindh Civil Servants (appointment, promotion and transfer) rules 1974, it was declared that the powers of IG Sindh in this regard have been withdrawn.

However, Section 4 of Police Act 1861 says that administration of provincial police including transfer and posting is invested in inspector general of police.

Media Coordinator of Chief Minister Sindh Rasheed Channa told The News that powers of transfer and posting were delegated by the Sindh government to the IG Sindh and now withdrawn according to law. "It is discretion of the chief minister to delegate or withdraw powers," concluded Mr Channa.
