‘Green Emergency’in Rawalpindi

Rawalpindi :The Managing Director of Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Raja Shaukat Mehmood has said that ‘Green Emergency’ has been declared in Rawalpindi in the wake of the forecast of heavy rains by the Metrological Department.

He said Rawalpindi has been divided into four zones and latest de-watering equipment has been provided in these zones where teams of WASA will work under the supervision of sub-division officers. He said effective response was given after heavy rain of Wednesday when rainwater accumulated in various areas and to ensure smooth discharge of water blocked sewerage lines were opened.

He said leaves of all WASA staff have been cancelled and concerning staff of WASA will be available at the control room round-the-clock and any complaint can be registered at 5555489. The Managing Director, said citizens can contact the complaint number to register any complaint about rain water accumulation and teams of WASA will respond immediately.

Referring to dredging of Nullah Leh, Raja Shaukat Mahmood said that work on it which was initiated in April this year has been completed fully and there is no danger of flood havoc by the main channels of Leh. The Secretary of Housing & Planning also visited and expressed satisfaction over the work on dredging of main channels of Leh which connects from Khayaban-e-Sir Syed, New Katarian, Dhok Ratta, Gawalmandi, Liaquat Bagh, etc.
