GUJRANWALA: There are 120 illegal immigrants, mostly Afghans, in the Central Jail, said Deputy Superintendent Jail Mudassar Khan.
Talking to newsmen here on Thursday, he said that five of the illegal immigrants – four Afghans and a Zimbabwean - had completed their term. He said that the Home Department had been informed about it and they were waiting for their orders in this regard. He said that the four Afghans, Abdullah, Abdul Fateh, Nizam Din and Sibghatullah, had completed their one month imprisonment and they were likely to be sent to the Peshawar jail for deportation to Afghanistan.
COP, PASSERBY INJURED IN ENCOUNTER: A constable and a passerby were injured in an encounter with a proclaimed offender here.
Civil Lines police along with Khiali police raided the hideout of proclaimed offender Mehboob to arrest him. On seeing police, the PO opened fire on them. As a result, constable M Munir and passerby Amjad were injured while the PO escaped.
NINE ILLEGAL AFGHANS HELD: Police continued the crackdown on illegal Afghans in the district. On Thursday, Dhulley police arrested nine Afghans from Chhapri Mohallah. They were living illegally.

Two travel agents held for Rs 90m fraud

GUJRANWALA: The FIA have arrested two accused in the Daska travel agency fraud case.
The accused - Naeem Sarwar and M Akram – had disappeared after committing fraud of Rs 90 million with 1,500 people, who wanted to perform Umra. On Thursday, the FIA, on a tip-off, raided an area and arrested the two accused. The FIA also recovered Rs 5 million from them.
