ISLAMABAD: The Joint Investigation Team (JIT) issued summons to children of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif — Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Hussain Nawaz Sharif and Hassan Nawaz Sharif – for their personal appearance before the probe body with all the relevant documents related to the investigation into the Panama Leaks case, the sources told The News here on Wednesday.

The JIT also asked for the chief of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) during the Musharraf regime Lt General (retd) Syed Muhammad Amjad to appear before it today i.e. June 29.

“In the summons issued on June 25 and addressed to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s daughter, the JIT asked Maryam Nawaz to appear before it on July 5. The Supreme Court-appointed JIT also asked the prime minister’s sons, Hussain Nawaz and Hassan Nawaz, to appear before it for further questioning on July 4 and July 3, respectively. Tariq Shafi, the cousin of the prime minister, has also been asked to appear before the probe body on July 2,” the sources said.

The summons also asked the children of the prime minister to bring relevant documents related to the Sharif family’s financial assets.

The summons NoJIT/Sum.01/12/17/45 issued on June 25 and addressed to Maryam Nawaz stated, “In pursuance of the order of the Honorable Supreme Court of Pakistan dated 20/04/2017 and 05/05/17 in CMA No.2939 of 2017 in constitutional petitions No29 of 2016 etc. you are called upon to appear before the Joint Investigation Team (JIT), Panama Case, on Wednesday, 5th July, 2017 at 1100 hours at the office of the JIT, Federal Judicial Academy, Service Road South, South, Sector H-8/4, Islamabad. Please bring along all relevant record/documents/material pertaining to the aforementioned Constitutional Petitions...You are advised that failure to comply with this summons may entail penal consequences as per relevant laws.”

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and PM’s sons Hussain Nawaz and Hassan Nawaz and Captain (retd) Muhammad Safdar, son-in-law of the prime minister, had already appeared before the JIT and recorded their statements.

Hussain Nawaz will appear before the JIT for the sixth time and Hassan Nawaz for the third time and they have so far provided all the relevant documents sought by the JIT during its ongoing investigation into the offshore assets of the Sharif family.

Both Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif have stated that there is no corruption case with regard to public money, rather it is against the Sharif family and its private businesses.

The sources said the JIT members in their meeting held on Wednesday also discussed in detail the issue of recording of the statement of Qatari Prince Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber al Thani who has offered the JIT to come to Qatar and record his statement.

Meanwhile, the JIT on Wednesday received the record about business accounts of the Sharif family from the officials of Habib Bank Limited in the context of the scam related to Hudaibiya Paper Mills, the sources told The News here on Wednesday.

The sources said that the JIT members in their meeting first thoroughly reviewed the documents submitted by the Sharif family and various organisations — Security and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP), National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and Habib Bank Limited — related to the Hudaibiya Paper Mills case. “The JIT members reviewed the record about business accounts of the Sharif family submitted by Habib Bank Limited especially focusing on transactions carried out in first and second tenures of Nawaz Sharif as the prime minister,” the sources said.

The sources said that the JIT in its meeting also reviewed the annual tax returns of the Sharif family in the light of details of their bank accounts and prepared separate questionnaires for the three children of the prime minister.

Meanwhile, the supporters of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) thronged social media and tweeted hundreds of thousands messages backing Maryam Nawaz after issuance of summons by the JIT for her personal appearance on July 5.

The people supporting Maryam Nawaz sent messages with title ‘Maryam Nawaz Meri Awaz (Maryam Nawaz is my Voice)’ and it has become a trend on Twitter. The people expressed their views and most of them said that they were with her in the past and the present as well.
