PHC rejects ex-Kohat nazim plea
PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Wednesday dismissed the writ petition of the former district nazim Kohat belonging to Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) claiming that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister had forcibly taken resignation from him.
A two-member bench comprising Justice Roohul Amin Khan and Justice Ijaz Anwar dismissed the writ petition of Maulana Niaz Muhammad, the former nazim, in which he had claimed that the chief minister had forcibly taken resignation from him.
During hearing, the petitioner’s lawyer submitted that Maulana Niaz Muhammad of JUI-F was elected as District Nazim Kohat. However, the KP chief minister forced him to quit February 7, 2017, which is unlawful. He pleaded the court to restore him as district nazim.
However, counsel for the chief minister, Shumail Ahmad Butt submitted that the JUI-F candidates had himself tendered resignation, which was accepted by the chief minister.
