Good news
The Punjab government has upgraded the post of primary school teachers (PSTs) – from BPS-9 to BPS-14. It is commendable that the provincial government has taken a long overdue step. In this age of high inflation, it was getting difficult for teachers to meet monthly expenses. Because of low salary package, many young qualified individuals quit their jobs and seek to join other professions. Teaching at a primary level is of utmost importance. It is in the fitness of things that these teachers are being rewarded richly in accordance with their important task. After this decision all primary school teachers took a sigh of relief and hailed it as an historic step.
In the same way, the post of middle school teachers was also upgraded. Also, the middle school teachers who are already working on the BPS-16 scale, along with secondary school teachers, were awarded two extra annual increments. However, secondary school teachers expressed concerns over the decision because they were expecting to be upgraded to BPS-17. It is the responsibility of the government to facilitate teachers to the best possible level. One now hopes that teachers will also reciprocate in the same way and will work with much devotion and commitment and help raise the standard of education in the country.
