In the budget announced on Friday (May 26), the minimum wage of labourers is set at Rs15,000 per month. This means that the wage has been increased by only Rs1,000.
Labourers work for more than 12 hours under harsh working conditions. They don’t enjoy perquisites like the ones enjoyed by other salaried-individuals. They are not given conveyance or medical allowance and do not have an option to enjoy paid leaves. The government should have increased their wages by a sufficient amount.
