Finance Minister Ishaq Dar had blamed the PTI’s sit-ins for all the ills the country has suffered like the devaluation, current account deficit, increase in our external debt, etc. All this because of a handful of people and ‘empty chairs’ blocking a few kilometres of the city. But how much have we lost so far now that the whole of the country has been immobilised because of the recent shortage of petrol? According to a report submitted by the Attorney General of Pakistan to the Supreme Court, the country has suffered approximately Rs547 billion because of the sit-ins.
When the PTI ordered its infamous Faisalabad shutdown, Pervez Rasheed blamed Imran Khan for not letting his children in Faisalabad to go to their schools and his sick brothers and sisters to hospitals. Where is Pervez Rasheed now? Why has he not levelled similar charges on the petroleum minister as he did on Imran Khan? Why is the attorney general not telling us the amount of loses we have suffered so far on account of the shortage of petrol? Why is this government so quick to point out the shortcomings of others while remaining oblivious of its own? The least it can do is decide first who to place the blame on for the crisis and who to use as a scapegoat.
