Rainy weekend forecast for Islamabad
Islamabad: Enough to cheer up Islooites planning outdoor recreation over the weekend, the Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast a little respite from the sweltering weather in the shape of thundershowers today (Saturday) and tomorrow (Sunday).
The wet spell caused by a shallow westerly wave prevailing in upper and central parts of the country will stay put during the next few days, said PMD forecasting officer Ruqiya Mehmood.
“During the next 48 hours (Saturday and Sunday), mainly hot and dry weather is expected in most parts of the country. However, dust and thunderstorm coupled with light rain and gusty winds is expected at a few places in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Malakand, Hazara, Gujranwala, Quetta and Zhob divisions, upper Fata and Azad Jammu and Kashmir,” she said on Friday.
The weatherwoman said during the last 24 hours, hot and dry weather was reported in most parts of the country. She, however, said dust-thunderstorm and rain with gusty winds occurred at isolated places in Makran, Kalat, Quetta, Bahawalpur divisions and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
The PMD has already forecast that May would be slightly more showery than normal with northern regions of the country seeing three to four spells of rains coupled with thunderstorms and isolated hailstorm in the month.
