Islamabad: Federal Minister for Human Rights Senator Kamran Michael has ordered inquiry into the
rape of a mentally challenged Christian woman in Sialkot.
While condemning the incident as an inhuman act, the minister asked the National Commission for Human Rights (NCHR) to conduct a fact-finding inquiry into it and furnish a detailed report to the ministry on priority basis.
He said the human rights ministry was striving hard to take necessary measures to check rape incidents in the country.
"We are committed to safeguarding the human rights in the country at every cost," he said.
The minister said his ministry had always taken care of the rights of the people with a special focus on women and children.
"We have also formed different solid policies to address such issues on priority basis," he said.
The minister said religious minorities enjoyed the rights given by the Constitution and that they considered themselves to be safe in Pakistan.
"We are always concerned about such sad incidents and will ensure that the culprits are brought to the court of law soon," he said.
