JI to chase every corrupt person: Siraj
LAHORE: Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Senator Sirajul Haq has said the JI would chase every corrupt person to achieve the goal of eradication of corruption from the homeland.
He said this while addressing a press conference at Mansoora on Wednesday. Sirajul Haq welcomed the Supreme Court’s bench to oversee further investigations into the Panama Leaks case and urged all the state institutions to fully cooperate with the JIT. He, however, asked the chief justice of the Supreme Court to take some additional steps alongside investigations to ensure transparency. He said the media and the masses should be kept fully informed of the proceedings. He was hopeful that the prime minister who was presently refusing to resign would soon yield to the justified demand and added that the nation was waiting for that day.
Sirajul Haq announced holding four public meetings in KP and Punjab during the next fortnight in connection with the JI drive against corruption.
Besides, he said a provincial Ulema convention would be held in KP on May 7 to involve the religious circles and Ulema in the campaign against corruption. He said the JI wanted to give a line of action against corruption by involving all the political parties and the legal community.
Sirajul Haq said the JI had moved a bill for the protection of journalists’ rights in National Assembly, and urged the government to adopt the bill at the earliest. He lauded Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan’s bold stance on Kashmir during his visit to India and said the Turkish leader had won the hearts of people of Kashmir and Pakistan by offering mediation on the issue.
To a question about the tense relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan, Sirajul Haq said that ice had alreadymelted due to the visit of two high-level Pakistani delegations to Kabul. He said that peace in Afghanistan was inevitable for peace in the region but added that this was not possible as long as the US and NATO forces were in Afghanistan.
Commenting on government moves in connection with news leaks, Sirajul Haq said the removal of small people won’t work and the actual culprits would have to be brought forth and held accountable.
On Pervez Musharraf’s predictions about 2018 elections results, Siraj advised the former military dictator not to act as a street fortune teller. He said Pervez Musharraf could not even foretell where he would be during 2018 polls.
