An alleged gangster was shot dead while three of his partners managed to escape during an encounter with police near Dubai Chowk, Lyari on Wednesday.

Officials of the Baghdadi police claimed an informer provided intel about gangsters gathered at a hotel in the vicinity. As the police moved in for arrests, the suspects opened fire at the law enforcers and tried to escape.

A shootout ensued in which one of the four suspects was fatally injured, while the other three managed to flee. The body of the deceased was shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) for a postmortem, where officials said he appeared to be a Baloch and was in his early 30s.

Since his identity could not be ascertained, the body was shifted to the Edhi Morgue.

Murder

A 42-year-old man was shot dead by unidentified people near Bismillah Hotel on Super Highway.

An official of the Sachal police station said unidentified men shot at the victim, identified as Shahi Gul son of Pak Gul, and fled.

The body of the deceased was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for a postmortem. Officials said the victim had been shot once in the chest at close range.

Police officials said that no cash or valuables were taken from the victim, which suggested that the murder was most likely driven by a personal enmity. The body was handed over to heirs for burial.
