The news of a frail Hindu widow, Shail Devi, and her two daughters saving the lives of 10 Muslims from a 5,000-strong mob during recent religious riots in the northern Indian state of Bihar is a rare example of communal harmony in our part of the world.
The crowd could have killed them all has she not given shelter to them in her house and lied to the crowd that she was not hiding anyone. Acts like these sustain our faith in humanity. Extremism has destroyed societies in our region.
