Cop dismissed in Charsadda

CHARSADDA: The police dismissed a cop for his alleged involvement in the non-customs paid vehicles, official said on Monday. District Police Officer Sohail Khalid told reporters that a cop identified as Khaista Rehman was dismissedfrom service for his involvement in non-customs paid vehicles. The official said the action was taken after an official inquiry.

 

Child dies, two hurt in Quetta blast 

QUETTA: A child died and two other were injured in a blast Monday at Killi Barat near Jinnah Town area of the provincial capital. According to police sources, the blast occurred at Killi Barat area leaving one child dead and two injured. The injured and body were rushed to the Civil Hospital. Law-enforcement agencies cordoned off the entire area and started investigation. Further investigation was under way.

 

AJK president calls on Jhagra

PESHAWAR: President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Sardar Muhammad Masood Khan called on Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra at Governor's House on Monday. He remained with the governor for some time and discussed matters related to Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Fedrally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata).

       

Torture victims protest against cops

HARIPUR: Dozens of villagers took to the streets in support of seven people, who have accused a police officer and his subordinates of subjecting them to torture and implicating them in a fake case. Muhammad Nawaz, a village councillor, Lal Din, Abid Khan and four others had through a complaint to the District Judge Haripur, and later at a news conference stated that they were beaten up publicly by the station house officer (SHO) Saddar Hadi Paristan and his subordinates on Wednesday last. They accused the SHO of subjecting them to torture during the detention in a fake case of gambling.

 

Azeem Fauji’s accomplice arrested

LAHORE: Security agencies claimed to have arrested another accomplice of Azeem Abu Fauji, head of Daesh in Lahore, from the Ghazi Road on Monday. The agencies have also taken four more facilitators involved in the Bedian Road and Chairing Cross incidents  into custody. Sources said Umar alias Sufian, a resident of Multan, has been arrested from Cantt as he used to provide rented houses to terrorists of banned outfit Daesh. The facilitators of suicide bombers of Bedian and Chairing Cross were identified as Wali Khan and Ramzan Khan. They have been shifted to an unknown location for further investigations.

 

Robbers kill man on resistance

LAHORE: Robbers killed a 54-year-old man on resistance in the Ichra police limits on Monday.Nasir of Gawalmandi was drinking juice from a juice corner on main Ferozpur Road when robbers tried to loot him. He offered resistance over which one of the robbers shot at and injured him. Police reached the scene and rushed him to hospital where doctors pronounced him as brought dead.

 

Tight security on Easter in Punjab praised

LAHORE: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has congratulated the cabinet committee on law & order on making the best security arrangements on Easter. He said that members of provincial cabinet committee made best security arrangements on Easter and provided opportunity to Christian community to observe their religious festival in a peaceful environment. He said that all the members of the committee worked hard and performed their national obligation of setting up of public peace and added that coordination among agencies concerned along with provincial institutions and departments remained best. Shahbaz Sharif said that all the institutions, police and administration concerned worked in a coordinated manner and ensured peaceful atmosphere on Easter. He said that work have to be done for setting up of peace in future with the same spirit and determination.

 

Counter-narrative against extremism stressed

ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain on Monday urged educational institutions and intellectuals to help develop a counter-narrative against extremism and terrorism in light of the teachings of Islam. He gave the call chairing 12th meeting of Board of Trustees of International Islamic University, on Faisal Mosque Campus here. The president said the IIU was playing an important role in the promotion of peace and inter-faith harmony. He called for the promotion of culture of research in educational institutions for strengthening the innovative and intellectual capabilities of students to enable them to win laurels for the country.

 

Five-day anti-polio drive starts

Rawalpindi: A five-day anti-polio campaign kicked off in the district as part of the National Immunization Drive to cover more than 800,000 children below five years of age, said District Health Officer Dr. Abdul Jabbar here on Monday. The DHO said that 2,189 polio teams, 209 medical officers, 448 area in charges and allied hospitals and Tehsil Headquarter Hospitals are participating in the drive. Dr. Abdul Jabbar informed that along with mobile teams, 124 special transit camps have been established at different points of the district, adding children under five years are also being vaccinated at the Islamabad Airport, railways stations, bus stops and public bus stands in the city. The areas where polio teams could not reach yet needed to be identified and people may contact health department or health centres of their area, he said. The DHO advised parents to come forward and play their role to ensure vaccination of their children to eliminate the crippling disease.

 

Hot, dry weather forecast

Islamabad: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Monday forecast mainly hot and dry weather in most parts of country, while very hot weather is expected in Sukkar, Sibbi, Larkana, Shaheed Benazirabad, Multan, Bannu, Kohat, Bahawalpur, Sahiwal and D.I Khan divisions during next 24 hours. However, light rain-thunderstorm is expected at a few places in Gilgit-Baltistan during the next 48 hours.According to synoptic situation, shallow westerly wave is affecting northern areas of the country. Highest temperatures recorded on Monday were Shaheed Benazirabad, Sibbi, Sukkar, Sukrund, Rahimyar Khan 47, Larkana 48C, Jacobabad, Khanpur, Bahawlpur, Padidan,  and Rohri 46.

GUJRANWALA: More than 100-acre standing wheat crop was burnt at Dera Noor Alam village on Monday.  Farmers alleged that 11KV electric cable was passing over the field and sparking in the cable caused fire in the field.
