Rawalpindi

Gulshanabad located at Adiala Road and having a large population is facing plethora of problems with scarcity of water becoming a major issue of this locality. The pathetic condition of Gulshanabad because of water problem, poor drainage system and broken roads at different points has deteriorated the entire condition of otherwise posh locality of Adiala Road.

On the request of the residents of the area, this correspondent during a survey of Ramzan Landco National Colony, Gulshanabad, found drainage water flowing on streets creating bad smell in the entire area. It has become difficult even to move in the streets, said, Sarfraz, Rehan and Moshin, residents of this locality. The staff of the concerned civic body TMA Potohar Town never felt necessary to visit this area for improving the condition of drainage system which poor, said another resident, Abid Majeed, while commenting over the situation of this area.

Similarly, along with other residents they showed the worst condition of streets which were broken at different points from start to the termination points. Some of the streets which have never been carpeted are covered with mud causing pollution particularly when vehicles move through the streets. As a result, the residents suffer with respiratory infections.

Above all the locality is deprived with the facility of water supply since its creation. More than 800 houses are constructed at Gulshanabad but the residents are deprived of major facility of water. Water pipelines connecting Askari Apartments are passing out on the main road of Gulshanabad locality however, the related civic body are not connecting these pipelines to our locality which is totally unjust. Why the residents of this area are not being provided water connections despite applying for it, questioned Mohammad Rashid, The people have no other option but to get the service of water bowsers on private basis whose charges are costlier and unbearable, the residents said.

The residents appealed to the interior minister, Ch. Nisar Ali Khan to visit Gulshanabad to witness himself the pathetic condition of the area as it falls in his constituency. They appealed to the interior minister to direct the authorities of the concerned civic body to take immediate measures for improving the overall condition of the Gulshanabad including improvement of the entire drainage system, construction and carpeting of streets and provision of water supply to the residents of the area.

When this correspondent approached Mayor Rawalpindi, Sardar Naseem and brought up the entire matter into his notice, he said it is in his knowledge. However, we have already starting working on a plan for renovating the condition of Gulshanabad particularly Landco National Colony. People of this area have approached me and measures are being taken to improve the overall condition of Gulshanabad particularly resolving water issue and improving condition of drainage system and constructing streets. Required funds would be allocated for this purpose and work on plan would begin in next three to four months, Sardar Nasim said.
