HANGU: Gunmen shot and injured a member of the dispute resolution council (DRC), a police official said on Friday.
The police also arrested an alleged attacker in injured condition while a search operation was launched to arrest his other accomplice on the loose. District Police Officer (DPO) Ihsanullah Khan told reporters that two miscreants riding a bike fired at the vehicle of a DRC member Zaheer Hussain in Hangu bazaar.
He said that Zaheer Hussain sustained bullet wounds in the attack, adding his official security guards returned the fire leaving one of the attackers injured.
The cop said the police took the injured miscreant into custody and shifted to a hospital while his accomplice managed to escape taking advantage of the narrow streets. He identified the arrested accused as Rafiullah, adding the police recovered a pistol, a
silencer, a hand grenade and a bike from the arrested miscreant.
He added that the injured DRC member was shifted to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital where the doctors referred him to the Lady reading Hospital in Peshawar. The DPO said that the condition of the injured DRC member was stable.
He said the police reached the crime scene soon after the incident, cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to arrest the other miscreant still on the loose.Meanwhile, the representatives and religious scholars of Sunni and Shia sects, including Syed Hassan Ali Shah Al-Hussaini and chief of Sunni Ulema Council Maulana Abdul Sattar termed the attack an act of terrorism, saying it was aimed at disturbing the peace of the area.They called for calm and vowed not to let the hostile elements harm the harmony and peace in the district.
