KARACHI: The First Chief of the Army Staff Challenge Hockey Cup begins on Thursday (today) at the Army Hockey Stadium, Rawalpindi.
The tournament is a joint venture of Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) and Army Sports Directorate.
Tournament Director Col (Retd) Nadeem Ahmed, flanked by Secretary Army Sports Directorate Col Aslam Bodla and Major Tariq, told reporters at a press briefing that it would be an annual feature. He praised the Army Sports Directorate for organising this tournament in Rawalpindi. “At a time when nobody is ready to take the ownership of the national game, Army has stepped in to support hockey,” he said.
He said the winners would get Rs100,000, while the runners up and third position holders would get Rs50,000 and Rs30,000, respectively.
Col Nadeem said that the 10 participating teams had been divided into two pools.
Pool-A: PIA, Army (Senior), Punjab, PAF, Police
Pool-B: WAPDA, NBP, SSGC, Navy, Army (Junior).
Today’s fixtures: WAPDA vs NBP, Army (Senior) vs Police, PIA vs Punjab.
