Police intel officer shot dead in Manghopir

An intelligence officer of the Karachi police was gunned down in an apparent terrorist attack in Manghopir area on Tuesday night.

SSP West Nasir Aftab told The News that Fareed Khan was sitting inside a television shop of his friend in Manghopir area, Garam Chashma, when two motorcyclists reached there and on confirming his Aftab’s identity, they killed him with a critical headshot. 

The SSP said Khan was performing duty in Manghopir area as he was posted in the town as an undercover agent. 

Aftab said eyewitnesses told the police that the assailants wearing face masks. 

Rescue teams moved the body to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

The SSP said a hunt had been launched to nab the attackers and a search operation was being carried out in the area.

SHO Manghopir Haji Sanaullah said the police had seized a shell of 9mm pistol from the spot. He said the attack seemed to be a terrorist activity as Khan was killed after confirmation of identity.

Taking action on this incident, Sindh Police IG AD Khawaja sought an inquiry report from the West deputy inspector general (DIG) immediately.

The IG called for forensic examinations of the evidence collected from the spot.

 

Gangster succumbs to wounds 

A gangster succumbed to his injuries during treatment at the Civil Hospital Karachi on Tuesday.

Three persons sustained bullet wounds in a clash between two gangs that took place in Rizvia area of Khajji Ground during the night between Monday and Tuesday.

The injured were taken to the CHK for treatment where they were identified as Imran, 48, son of Khan, Mehtab, 26, son of Pir Muhammad and Ali, 20, son of Yousuf.

SHO Pak Colony Abdullah Bhutto said Ali succumbed to his bullet wounds during treatment, while the condition of Imran and Mehtab was said to be out of danger.

He claimed that the dead and injured persons belonged to Lyari gangs.

No case was registered as nobody had contacted the police in this regard, he added.
