Double standards

Jufelhurst school, located in Soldier Bazaar, was built by Sybil D’Abreo on her own property. It had been functioning since 1931. However, given the fact that the builder mafia entered the premises and demolished the structure under the supervision of the police shows the power and impunity with which they operate. This shameful act only serves to illustrate the extent to which the cancer of greed has penetrated into our society. It also appears that the builder mafia has become more powerful than the state itself. Schools and buildings declared as heritage sites are being demolished. Moreover, instead of building more schools, we are tearing down the already existing ones.

Billions of rupees generated by powerful land mafias seem to have blinded the existing state machinery and elected public officials from discharging their constitutional duties for which they are paid salaries. There were stories about a powerful MNA constructing his house on a plot of land that was allocated for the construction of a school in Sukkur. The house still exists despite the initial outrage that was exhibited. In the meantime the political parties continue their rhetoric of eradicating extremism by promoting education.
