Sugarcane growers demand release of payments

JHANG: Sugarcane growers are facing problems due to non-payment of their payments from the sugar mills of the district.
The farmers also staged a demonstration outside the DC Office after the cheques given to them by the sugar mill owners were dishonoured by the concerned banks. The protesting farmers alleged that the district administration was not taking action against the millers. Meanwhile, DC Mudassar Riaz in a press release said that the sugar mills administration was called at the DC Office and the millers had been asked to clear the dues of the farmers by April 15.
FESTIVAL: A mini festival was organized at the BHU Thattah Muhammad Shah in connection with the Mother & Child Health Week here on Wednesday.
District Population Welfare Officer Shahzad Aslam inaugurated the event. School Health & Nutrition Supervisor of the BHU Mrs Iffat Mumtaz briefed that the mothers of 50 villages participated in the event. She said that awareness sessions had also been conducted to educate the visiting women regarding improvement in hygienic conditions, personal hygiene, antenatal care, family planning and nutrition.
