The judicial commission probing the non-provision of clean drinking water, sanitation and a healthy environment to the people of Sindh has directed several top government officials to submit reports to confirm if the directives the Supreme Court had issued recently for remedial action were being complied with.
The notices were issued by the judicial commission, headed by Justice Mohammad Iqbal Kalhoro, in light of a three-member bench’s orders that the commission constituted by the court continue to work with the powers conferred on it.
The bench had observed that the water and sanitation issues had been having a direct impact on the public life and health in the province.
It had further ordered that the judicial commission ensure compliance with its directives and also take all steps to make sure that the task force constituted by the government was complying with the recommendations made in the report.
On Friday, the commission directed the chief secretary, secretaries of local bodies, irrigation, health and industries, managing director of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board, director general of the Sindh Environmental Protection Agency, managing director of SITE, Sindh, and the Solid Waste Management Board to submit compliance reports on April 1.
