JHANG: The Tehsil Municipal Administration has allowed a businessman to establish a private residential colony on the state land worth billions of rupees despite orders of the Punjab chief secretary to protect it.
District Public Safety Commission former chairman Syed Shabbar Raza, in a letter, said that the Punjab government had leased 200 kanals of state land situated at Satellite Town for a factory. He said that about two months ago, the miller gave power of attorney of the land to another person for its onward sale in violation of the BoR laws. He added that the bearer of the power of attorney was planning to establish a residential colony on the state land. “The matter was brought to the notice of the Punjab chief secretary who ordered the BoR to hold an inquiry and give him a detailed report. The BoR Colony secretary directed the district collector to provide him the record and a report about the land,” he said.
Raza said that the land ownership matter was still under consideration with the BoR, but the TMA officials issued a no-objection certificate (NoC) to the businessman for the establishment of a residential colony on the land. He pointed out that large hoardings had been displayed in different parts of the city regarding booking of the plots. He said that he would move the Lahore High Court if the district collector and the TMA administrator did not take step to protect the state land. When contacted, TMO Ahmed Khan said that he had assumed the office five days ago and would look into the matter after being ordered by the authorities.
