Muqeet, Wajahat win Balijee Pairs Event

LAHORE: Sheikh Abdul Muqeet and Wajahat Suri won the Pairs Event of the Balijee Bridge Championship here on Friday.

The Pairs Event of the 15th edition of Balijee International Bridge concluded around 1pm on Friday.

During the course of the Pairs Event, there were strong performances from Maj Asad Maqbool & Ghalib Bandesha, Javed Khalid and Saeed Akhter, and Mirza Shauq Hussain and Indian star Sappan Desai.

Pairs of Karachi were also impressive, including Tehseen Gheewala-Rahid ul Ghazi, Mubashir Puri-Junaid, Parvez Mirza-Imran Abidi and Hasan Askari-Khalid Mohiuddin.

But Muqeet and Wajahat were always a crushing force for the opponents.

The top 10 pairs were: Wajahat-Muqeet 62.91 pts average; Shauq- Desai 61.46; Maj Asad-Ghalib 60.42; Fatima Raza-Rubina Agha 59.49; Gheewala-Rashid 59.29; Javed Khalid-Saeed Akhter 59.27; Niaz Hussain-Qamar S Kiani 56.85; Khalid Mohiuddin-Hassan Askari 56.17; Shahid Rafique-M Shafiq 56.04; and Ahsan Javed Qureshi-Ghias A Malik 54.86.

The team event kicked off at 3pm on Friday. Out of the 20 teams, playing members of at least 10 have international exposure.

Fireworks are expected from master artists like Javed Khalid, Rashid ul Ghazi, Pervez Mirza, Hasan Askari, Ahsan Quereshi, Nauman Butt, Malik Ghias, Shauq Hussain, Masood Mazhar, Tahir Abbas and Khurshid Hadi.
