SUKKUR: U.S Pakistan Centers for Advanced Studies in Water (USPCAS-W) of Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET) in collaboration with National Rural Support Programme (NRSP) celebrated the World Water Day at the Gymkhana Club, Badin.
On this occasion, Badin District Council Vice Chairman Allah Dino Chandio said that water was a precious commodity and it had been wasted in large volumes, as it had been taken for granted. He said that if the price of water was to be fixed at par with fuel i.e. petrol and diesel, then the people would know how important it was. Chandio emphasised government institutes as well as the civil society to launch massive campaign for saving water.
USPCAS-W Deputy Director Academic and Research Dr Rasool Bux Mahar gave a comprehensive presentation on wastewater, which was the theme of the day for the year 2017.
Dr Mahar said that due to increase in population in Pakistan, the water resources were being limited and now the country was facing water scarcity in urban population for domestic use and in rural areas for the use of agriculture. He said that the grey water — a kind of wastewater could be treated with modern techniques and it could be reused for domestic purposes. Dr Mahar further said that various water saving and disinfection treatment techniques could be used by the community. NRSP Program Manager Zaheer Khoso briefed about the intervention of NRSP in communities for Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WaSH) practices.
