In Maurine P Lines’ death, Pakistan, and particularly, the Kalasha community have lost an honourable and noble soul or a caring mother for the destitute of the Kalash valleys. I had the privilege and honour of knowing her and also doing a coffee table book project on the Kalasha community with her, along with my colleague Major (r) Sabih-ur-Rehman. She gave up her comfortable, protected and prosperous life abroad in exchange for the uncomfortable, tedious life in the remotest mountainous areas of Pakistan. She sought pleasure in her endeavours to serve humanity. She is definitely my role model and the entire country should be proud of her. In Maurine P Lines’ death, Pakistan has lost a soul par excellence.
I humbly submit an appeal to the prime minister to posthumously recognise the services of Maurine P Lines in the next national awards ceremony.
