Sindh High Court Chief Justice Ahmed Ali M Sheikh has directed sessions judges to conduct surprise visits to district prisons, hospitals and schools. He also ordered that separate reports should be submitted in this regard.
The direction came on applications with regard to lack of facilities in the government-run hospitals, schools and prisons.
Applicants submitted that medical facilities and medicines were not being provided to patients at government hospitals besides doctors were not available to treat the patients at different hospitals of the province.
It was submitted that prisoners were not being provided health and other facilities as per the jail manual and rules.
The SHC directed the sessions judges to pay surprise visits to their respective districts hospitals, prison and schools.
Detention cases
The SHC directed the federal and provincial law officers to submit report with regard to detention of citizens allegedly by law enforcers.
Petitioners Humaira Tariq, Asma Bano, Munawar Ali Wasti and Saima submitted in their petitions that police and personnel of the law-enforcement agencies had picked up Tariq Saeed, Asad Zaheer, Syed Nayar Ali Wasti and Farhaj Yaqoob fom Malir, Clifton, Mehmudabad and FB Area and their whereabouts were unknown.
They submitted that police and law enforcers were not disclosing whereabouts of the detainees and they were not being produced before the courts.
The court was informed that Mahar Haroon Rashid, who has been missing since September 14, 2015, was himself hiding as he was wanted in corruption cases.
The court directed the federal and provincial law enforcement agencies to submit their reports with regard to recovery of the detainees on the next date of hearing.
