Justice Ahmed Ali Sheikh sworn in as 23rd SHC chief justice
A senior judge of the Sindh High Court (SHC) Justice Ahmed Ali M Sheikh on Wednesday took oath as the 23rd chief justice of the provincial high court.
He was administered oath of office by Sindh Governor Mohammad Zubair at a ceremony held at the SHC premises. It was attended by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, judges of the high court, federal and provincial law officers, representatives of bar associations and others.
Speaking to journalists after the oath-taking ceremony, SHC CJ Justice Sheikh asserted that there would be zero tolerance for corruption in the province’s judiciary and any judicial officer found guilty of misconduct would face serious consequences.
Justice Sheikh, who was elevated as a judge of the SHC on September 25, 2009, said the mechanism in place for swift disposal of cases would be continued and efforts would be made to clear the backlog of pending cases.
Justice Ahmed Ali M Sheikh’s appointment as SHC CJ comes following the elevation of former CJ Sajjad Ali Shah as a judge of the Supreme Court. After the oath-taking ceremony, CJ Sheikh visited the Quaid’s mausoleum to pay his respects.
