Army dominate National Shooting Championship

KARACHI: Army dominated the second day of the 24th National Shooting Championship with six gold medals at Army Shooting Range, Jhelum, on Tuesday.

Pakistan Air Force are number two with one gold, one silver, and one bronze medal. Navy are third with three silver and two bronze medals.

Sindh have won one silver and one bronze medal, and Punjab one silver.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have not won any medal yet.

On Tuesday, Abubakar Siddique of Army won gold in skeet event in individual category, setting a national record of 119 match score and 169 qualifying score.

Usman Chand from Punjab won silver medal with match score of 117, and Ahmed Sultan of Sindh won bronze with match score of 113.

Asif Mehmood of Navy, Shamiel of Army, and Khurrum Inam of Navy achieved fourth, fifth and sixth positions, respectively.

In the team category, Army won gold with a score of 343. Sindh won silver medal with a score of 327 and Navy got bronze with a score of 325.

On the first day, in the prone rifle event for men, Army had won gold in team event by scoring 1827.2 points. PAF won silver medal with 1824.9 and Navy bagged bronze with 1820 points.

In the individual category of the event, Midrar of PAF won gold with 613.4, Ghufran of Navy won silver by scoring 612.6, and Army’s Siddique bagged bronze by scoring 612.5 points.

In the Air Pistol event for women, Naveela of Army won gold by scoring 602.3 points, Mehwish of Navy won silver medal with 597.3 (setting a national record of 230.3 points), and Farhat of Army won bronze by scoring 577.2.

In the Centre Fire Pistol event (team category for men), Army won gold medal with 1,724 points, which is a national record.

Navy grabbed silver medal by scoring 1,687 points and PAF won bronze by scoring 1,675 points. 

In the individual category of the event, Army won all three medals as Khalil Akhtar scored 583 points (a new national record) for gold, Mohammad Kabir scored 575 points for silver, and Mohammad Qazzafi won bronze with 575 points.

The championship will continue till March 20. “This event is also a kind of trial to select the national team for Islamic Solidarity Games,” said National Rifle Association of Pakistan (NRAP) secretary Javed Lodhi while talking to ‘The News’.
