Aman Foundation clarifies report

By our correspondents
March 14, 2017

In reference to The News’ story titled, “The ambulance service that seems to have crashed before taking off” which appeared on Sunday, March 12, 2017, The Aman Foundation emphatically rejects the claim that any pressure has been put on the government to initiate additional services which is causing a delay.

In fact, The Aman Foundation has been working closely with the government for several months to ensure quick turnaround for the service to be launched.

The Aman Foundation is a not-for-profit, charitable organisation working solely for the betterment of the underserved communities in Karachi for the past nine years.

To date, Aman Ambulances have made 840,000 interventions in very difficult situations and our lifesaving ambulances are the reason for thousands of lives saved.

Keeping in view the impact and unique operational excellence of Aman Ambulances, the government of Sindh opted to initiate the Sindh People’s Ambulance Service with 25 ambulances to be operated in the Thatta and Sujawal areas, under the public-private partnership framework.

The funds for the first year were transferred into a legally structured, escrow account set up by the government to regulate disbursement to partners like Aman, upon achievement of project milestones.

The Aman Foundation acquired the ambulances, fabricated them with lifesaving equipment such as automatic defibrillators, spine boards, pulse oximeters, oxygen and medicines.

Additionally, 220 local people are hired as drivers, nurses and paramedics who have been trained in Basic Life Support (BLS) and the Control and Command staff has also been trained in Medical Priority Dispatch System (MPDS) within record time.

Due to the timely completion, the Aman Ambulances were also able to respond to the unfortunate and tragic emergency at Sehwan Sharif earlier in February 2017.

Since December, the Aman Foundation has held a number of meetings with the Sindh government to formally launch the service.

As the government of Sindh is the sponsor of this service and the ambulance network has to connect into the government’s healthcare system, it requires government consent to formally launch it, which we await.

Furthermore, The Aman Foundation is a responsible, humanitarian organisation, willing to lend a hand and work with all organisations working towards the betterment of the community.

The impact we make upholds our
reputation and we are proud of the work we do.
