Petrol shortage paralyses life From Our Correspondent SIALKOT: An acute shortage of petrol has paralysed life here and in adjoining areas. Citizens told The News that a majority of petrol pumps on Defence Road, Kashmir Road, Shahbpura Road, Khadim Ali Road, Railway Road, Hajipura Road, Circular Road, Kh Safdar Road, Jail Road, Marala Road, Gohadpur Road and in other areas of the city were not apparently functioning. “Though entry points of these petrol pumps have temporarily been closed, petrol was being sold in canes at inflated rates. Owing to a great rush of the buyers, traffic was jammed on the roads,” they said, adding that shopkeepers were selling petrol at Rs 120-140 per litre. They said that it seemed that there was no writ of the government in the district. In a statement, DBA former president Shahid Mir criticised the government for adding to the miseries of the people. He said that the petrol shortage had been created artificially by the petrol mafia with the support of the government functionaries. He termed the petrol crisis a result of poor governance.
