LAHORE: Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) chief Dr Tahirul Qadri said the Pakistan Army and his party were the only two forces in the country that sincerely wanted to end terrorism and extremism while parliament had not even owned the war against terrorism as their own.
He warned that different quarters had become active as they do not want the military courts to start functioning. He was addressing a PAT rally outside the Lahore Press Club on Saturday via video link from the US, held to re-launch an anti-government movement against the injustice in the Model Town incident and the non-formation of a judicial commission according to his demands. He warned the government that the PAT would not rest till those responsible for the Model Town killings were hanged till death, adding that the rulers had links with banned and terrorist outfits. He said after electricity and gas, now petrol had become scarce, corruption was rampant, inflation was high and expressed wonder why under these circumstances people were not coming out on the streets to snatch their rights.
Qadri said only he and Imran Khan could not bring about a revolution when the masses sit in their houses, to hold the rulers accountable, who were making a fool of the people under the guise of the war against terrorism. He criticised the Punjab Assembly for not debating terrorism despite remaining in session for a month, while the French rulers brought the whole of the nation out on the streets after killing of 12 persons. He asked if the Pakistani prime minister had no moral values and was not ashamed of his performance, adding he did not give a call of a million march despite the killing of children in the Peshawar school. Dr. Raheeq Abbasi said the rulers have one month to accept their demands, otherwise the scope of protests will be expanded to all over the country. He demanded the Punjab chief minister must resign, the Model Town incident case be sent to a military court, a JIT be formed with the consensus of the heirs of those killed in the Model Town incident and a judicial commission report be made public and Taqueer Shah be arrested.
