WAPDA win men’s, women’s team table tennis titles
KARACHI: WAPDA won both men’s and women’s team events, beating Army in the finals, on the penultimate day of the 53rd National Table Tennis Championship in Islamabad on Thursday.
In the men’s team event final, WAPDA retained the crown by comprehensively beating Army 3-0. WAPDA also showed discipline in the women’s team event decider and dethroned the soldiers by beating them 3-0.
WAPDA also reigned supreme in the women’s singles competitions as three of their players qualified for the semi-finals.
Sadia Raheel, Ghazala Basit and Ayesha Sharjeel of WAPDA and Nousheen Noureen of Railways entered the last-four stage which was scheduled to be held on Thursday night.
The men’s singles slots were also dominated by WAPDA as three of their players made it to the semi-finals. WAPDA’s Saleem Abbas, Shujaat Ali and Mohammad Ramiz and Army’s Faizan Zahoor qualified for the semi-finals which were in progress when this report was filed.
