AN eighteen-year-old youth died after taking tainted cough syrup in Lower Mall area on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Kamran of Malik Park Bilal Gunj, Lower Mall. Police said that youth Kamran was an addict who had consumed excessive use of toxic cough syrup, resulting into his death. Police handed over the dead body to heirs after completing legal formalities.
accidents: At least 591 road traffic accidents were reported to Rescue 1122’s Provincial Monitoring Cell in all the 36 districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours in which five lives were lost and 494 seriously injured were shifted to different hospitals of the relevant districts. However, some 208 victims, sustaining minor injuries, were provided first aid on the spot.
About 268 drivers, 15 underage drivers, 81 pedestrians and 358 passengers were among victims of these road traffic accidents. The statistics show 109 RTAs were reported to Lahore Control Room, which affected 120 persons placing the provincial capital at the top of the list followed by 65 RTAs in Faisalabad with 82 victims and Multan at third position with 40 RTAs and 36 victims.
Details further show that total 707 victims were affected by the road traffic crashes including 568 males and 139 females while the age group of victims showed that 99 were under the 18 years of age, 415 were between 18 and 40 years and rest of the 193 victims were reported above 40 years. About 473 motorbikes, 81 auto rickshaws, 65 motorcars, 30 vans, 14 passenger buses, 22 trucks and 72 other types of auto vehicles and slow moving carts involved in the aforesaid road traffic accidents.
search operation: All the divisional SPs led ‘search operation’ in the provincial metropolis on Saturday in which 4,655 persons were checked and 70 persons were arrested for not having their complete documents.
They took action against 134 people under Section 55/109.
DIG Operations Dr. Haider Ashraf said they could not succeed against terrorism without completely following the National Action Plan. Unlawful use of loudspeaker, religious extremism and religious provocative literature should be banned to defeat terrorism, he added.
He appealed to the public to cooperate with the police and inform them about any suspicious activity around them so that police could take action in time.
