Islamabad: The Union Council (UC-12) Rawat that is considered as 'gateway' to Islamabad lacks basic amenities of life despite the fact that it generates its own financial resources more than any other union council in the capital city.

The UC-12 annually generates financial resources worth Rs90 million and construction of a tubewell, a vocational training institute and
roads in this area have been carried out through its own funds.

Mubashir Mehmood, a resident, said when they go to the elected representatives they say that the federal government has provided not a single rupee for the development projects after local bodies elections.

Javaid Hussain, another resident, said there is no degree college in the area and primary and middle schools are being run without proper buildings, adding "There is a medical dispensary but no lady doctor is available to treat female patients."

UC-12 Chairman Chaudhry Azhar said they have collected revenue worth Rs90 million and out of this money Rs40 million has been used to lay down sewerage pipelines in the area.

"We have used our own resources worth Rs4.8 million to construct roads, one million rupees to provide furniture to the schools, one million rupees to set up tubewell and Rs50 million to construct schools," he said.

He said the cattle market measuring 183 kanals falls in the vicinity of this union council but it is not given any share from the revenue generated through this market.
