The Sindh Public Service Commission (SPSC) has been rendered dysfunctional for the last five months by the Supreme Court of Pakistan through suo moto action. The reason behind this decision was the appointment of chairman who didn’t have the required qualification. After the decision came into force, the appointments made by the SPSC were also rendered invalid. Thousands of vacancies are waiting to be filled including the posts of medical officers. The SC’s order has not only affected the vacancies to be filled but has also put a bar on the recommendations already sent to the Sindh Government for appointments. The provincial government has already issued offer letters to successful candidates as recommended by the SPSC.
Aspiring candidates have to take combined competitive examination to apply for the said posts. After passing the written test, candidates are selected for screening tests. Once the candidates have cleared the whole process, they are selected. This decision has created uncertainty. The question is: What is the fault of the successful candidates who had undergone a rigorous process? The apex court is requested not to punish the successful candidates at the altar of faults of others. It is hoped that the SC will allow the appointment of the candidates recommended by the SPSC.
