The Ministry of Climate Change has approved another important project titled National Integrated Disaster Management Information System (NIDMIS) that would help take evidence based decision making with due visibility of the location of the occurrence of an event in multiple representations.
According to the official data, it would populate the established Geospatial Platform with most relevant data that would be applicable to the Disaster Management Cycle (DMC) and pertinent associated disciplines like meteorology, hydrology, seismology, geology, climatology, geography, and cartography.
This system would be accessible by academia, researchers, development organisations and general public with viewing rights defined for all types of users and viewers in accordance with need assessment and data security considerations.
"User addition, deletion and rights definition are envisaged integral part of the system thereby making it flexible, futuristic and wholesome from technical and utilisation perspectives," it said.
The data revealed that new system would help analyse data in a more meaningful manner to draw conclusions applicable to disaster management and as relevant to the particular location in keeping with the specific characteristics of the geographical location under study.
It would also provide specific information to different stakeholders in the country and even abroad with due cognisance of security and other related aspects.
