Rawalpindi: The kite flying completely in violation of ban imposed by the Punjab government is posing real danger to the lives of the residents as the kite fliers are using chemical coated twines that are being sold at various points of the city.
"The kite flying gained momentum slowly but now sale of kites and strings can be seen everywhere in the city. The kite fliers are using glass coated strings that have so far caused fatal injuries to number of people," said Shaukat Yamin, a resident of Dhoke Hassu.
He said the policemen were making announcements through loudspeakers while travelling on their vans focusing on the message for the general public to follow the law and avoid getting involved in kite flying.
Kashif Malik, a resident of Sadiqabad, said he had not used his motorbike for last couple of days after the media reports about fatal injuries to the bikers due to chemical coated strings. The violation of ban on kite-flying has become a routine in the city and the malpractice has been causing different problems for the people. Owing to easy availability, the people are purchasing kites and violating the ban not only on rooftops but even on roads.
The residents have demanded of the provincial government to take notice of violation of ban on kite flying and curb this illegal activity through effective measures at grassroots level.
