600 buses

This refers to the news report, ‘600 more buses to ply Karachi’s road soon’ (Feb 22). This is a good step taken in the right direction, but the provincial government needs to ensure the timely completion of the project. The rapid increase in the population of the city calls for more such projects. The authorities should provide the best mass transportation facilities to the people.

The current deplorable situation of the city’s transport system has already been highlighted at several times. Public buses are unsafe not only because of their shoddy condition but the reckless driving of drivers as well. Since the number of buses is less, a large number of people are found sitting on the rooftop of buses. This is dangerous for the public. This is why Karachi citizens are anxiously waiting for the completion of the project.
