Police kill eight ‘TTP terrorists’ in Malir
Arrest three ‘members of a banned outfit’ in another raid
Eight suspected terrorists belonging to the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, including their chief in Tank, Waziristan and a would-be suicide bomber, were gunned down by police in a shootout near Bakra Piri in Malir in the wee hours of Wednesday.
SSP Malir Rao Anwaar said he had received information that some terrorists had entered Karachi from Afghanistan via Wadh, Balochistan. On a tip off, police raided a house in Malir and in the ensuing encounter, injured eight terrorists. However, their associates managed to escape.
The official said the injured terrorists were taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where they were pronounced dead.
Anwaar said the slain terrorists included Gul Zaman, the TTP chief in Tank, Waziristan, notorious terrorist Taj alias Lala and a would-be suicide bomber.
Six pistols, a repeater rifle, an 8mm rifle, and an improvised explosive device concealed in a laptop were found at their hideout.
The official said the terrorists were wanted by police for killing law-enforcement personnel and kidnapping industrialists in Karachi for ransom. They had also carried out terrorist attacks in the city.
Anwaar said it was for the first time that terrorists were using a laptop for an attack. The bomb disposal squad found that it contained about two and a half kilogrammes of explosives.
The official said later in the day, police conducted a raid in Malir City and arrested three more terrorists of a banned outfit.
They were identified as Zeeshan, Shariq Raza Khan and Tajamul Shahbaz. They were found in possession of CDs containing hate-inciting content and three pistols.
Bodies found
The body of an unidentified man was found under the Rexer Bridge. Officials at the CHK said the victim’s corpse bore torture marks and were of the opinion that he was around 30 years old.
In Landhi, the two-day-old body of a 22-year-old man, Sahil, was found from his house. The body was taken to the CHK for an autopsy but officials were as yet unclear over the cause of death.
